Weekly Victory Message (Blog)

The Weekly Victory! by "the Evangelist"

It's time for our "Family and Friends" Sunday service!

All memebers are encouraged to invite family members and friends to Victory Christian Church on Sunday, September 30, 2018!  This is a special "Pew Packer" Sunday!  Join us for this exciting service!

Last Sunday I preached a memorable message titled, "Let God do the talking"!  In 1 Samuel 3:1-11  God call young Samuel while he was sleeping.  Each time God called, Samuel thought the Priest Eli was calling.  I believe God is trying to talk to you every day.  Are you listening or do you think it is someone else calling you?  God speaks to us in many ways:

1. God speaks in a small still voice. 1 Kings 19:12.

2. God speaks through His word. 2 Timothy 3:16.

3. God speaks during dreams and visions. Joel 2:28.

4. God speaks through preachers. Romans 10:14.

5. God speaks through our thoughts. Amos 4:13.

6. God speaks through His wondrous works. Psalm 40:5.

7. God speaks through His Son Jesus! Hebrews 1:1-2.

If God:

1. Talked to Adam in the garden.

2. Talked to Noah about the Ark.

3. Talked to Moses at the bush.

4. Talked to Abraham about his legacy.

5. Talked to Hagar about her son.

6. Talked to Joseph in prison.

7. Talked to Isaiah in a vision.

8. Talked to Job through tradegy.

9. Talked to Hosea through a cheating wife.

10. Talked to everyone at Jesus baptism.

11. Talked to Paul on the road.

12. Talked to John on the island.

What makes you think He will not talk to you?

Hurricane Harvey Restoration!

Thank you Brother Joseph Chavis, Brother Cleo Marshall, and Deacon McCoy for tearing the sheetrock out of the tool room last week!  Thank you for doing the Lord's work!   What's next?  Glad you asked!  Our next project is tearing out the sheetrock in the apartment and courtyard restrooms.  This will be difficult because we will have to work around the plumbing in the restrooms.  We could use more volunteers for this project.  Interested?  Come on down!

Monthly Prayer Theme

During the month September we will pray for the reduction and elimination of street violence in South East Texas!  Psalm 11:5 The Lord tests the righteous, But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.

Frequently Asked Question(s)

Question of the day: September 20:

Should Christians pay their taxes?

Yes, but not just because it’s the law. We should pay taxes, and not complain about it, because we are purchasing some things that we do not realize we are purchasing, plus we are obeying God’s will.

When we pay taxes we are giving the government money so that they can provide services for us. These services include roads, bridges, highways, levees, Medicare, free education, social security, job opportunities, military protection, and more. If you don’t like paying for these things or you feel you are not getting any benefits, then you should go to the polls and vote, but don’t avoid paying your taxes.

Also don’t lie about your taxable income. That would be illegal and displeasing to God. Many famous people have tried this and have gone to jail.

The Pharisees, a religious sect, asked Jesus a question about taxes, because they were hoping to trap Him with His own words.

The Bible says,

Matthew 22:17 “Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” 18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? 19 Show Me the tax money.” So they brought Him a denarius. 20 And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” 21 They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

The Bible also tells us to submit to the governing bodies of our country.

The Bible says,

Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.

This does not mean you cannot claim your tax deductions. If you have done certain things as allowed by law, such as starting a home business or raising children, then you may be entitled to a deduction (or reduction) in the amount of taxes you owe.

However, I recommend you seek advice from a Christian tax professional to help you make the right decisions concerning paying taxes. But more importantly, make sure you are honoring God first!

Great question!  Victory today is yours!
